I Like Mike’s

One of my friends asked me for help decorating his home. He described the look he’d like to achieve as “clean with a bit of a punch – of color, texture, the unexpected.” Immediately, my head went to mid-century modern and it’s fitting because this friend of mine is a very dapper guy.

Enter I Like Mike’s, the warehouse/gallery in Brooklyn specializing in mid-century design. The inventory is so well edited, you can be sure that you are getting something authentic and well-crafted, not just “mid century inspired.” I could totally imagine my friend’s new space right now: a deep grey mid-century couch in front of light, whispery grey walls with the white clock below, popping off the wall, the pair of these orange lamps flanking the scene. The secretary in the corner working as combination storage, bar and media center. You see how easy it it?

On his website, Mike asks “why have your furniture newly manufactured and shipped from half-way around the world when you can buy a piece locally that has not required the use of raw materials in decades?”

Word. Here are a few other of my favorites from I Like Mike’s.

Tres cool stacking stools.
