March 2011
Hi, I’m Erin.
During the day, I’m an Account Supervisor at a New York ad agency. I spend my nights and weekends entranced in all things design. I’m originally from North Carolina, though Brooklyn seems to be a better fit. I live on the third floor of a limestone walk-up near Prospect Park with my boyfriend BC.
I come from a long line of thrifters. My great grandmother Haines and grandmother, Nana, were known to come home with some outrageous flea market finds and then create beautiful pieces. I remember visiting flea markets and antique with my mom throughout my childhood. There’s a thrill in breathing new life into old things. I’ve made a chalkboard out of a window I found on the street. My favorite lamp started as an antique fire extinguisher. By decorating with repurposed, salvaged or vintage pieces, I get to preserve a small bit of the past.

Salvaged Grace is a place to celebrate this idea and strives to be a source for ways to decorate your home using salvaged materials and unique, vintage pieces. It’s not about being eco-friendly, but how memories can be held in a chair, a piece of fabric, even a kitchen utensil. I hope that by reading, you’ll be inspired to Repurpose. Reclaim. Redecorate.

Or introduce yourself below, I’d love to meet ya!

Erin, it’s your old roomie! This is so cool that you’re doing a blog! You should post some of the stuff you did with the living room (unless you did and I just didn’t see it.) Anyways, guess what: Abe and I are in the process of buying a house! I’m really hoping to be able to make it unique looking (as in, not everything from Ikea) so I will definitely be checking out this blog. I’m not so much an antiques person, but would love any suggestions of types of places to find good quality items, either decor or even furniture, at a good price that just need a new home. (And as of now, we have a pink tiled bathroom that will be staying as is.)
Hugs,
Debi
Hi Debi!! I’ll definitely be posting some of the projects I’ve been working on at home – it’s in the lineup!
Sooo exciting! If you want to send me pics of your new house (and a floorplan if you get one), I’m happy to put together some ideas. I think I know your style!
Congratulations!!!
Hi Erin!

Hi Erin
Just wanted to say ‘thanks’ for talking about Resilica! We stumbled across your blog (which is great!) in a google search… not sure how you found us, but we’re very glad you did. We’re only selling Resilica nationally, unfortunately, otherwise we’d ask you to be our mouthpiece in the States!
Thanks again and all the best,
Lesley and Gary
Thanks so much Lesley and Gary! I think ya’ll have an awesome product. And if you do begin selling Resilica in the US, you know who to call for marketing! Thanks for reading! Erin
loving your blog! will be checking out your shop as well.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. There will be more in the shop in the future for sure. I am currently arranging all my ducks in a row! Thanks again!
Hi Erin!
Thank you for the kind words on your blog!
All the best with it!
Gavin
Hello!
I’ve just recieved a pingback to a link that you’ve posted from one of my blog entries. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my blog and to consider it as part of your own little internet space. Unfortunately, however the idea for the wine bottle vases is not mine. I tried to recreate it, but failed miserably. I did however post my inspiration from Design*Sponge. I also forgot to give proper credit where credit is due. Here’s the Design*Sponge link to the vases: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/11/diy-project-lindsays-wine-bottle-vases.html
Have yourself a fantastic New Year, and all the best with your blog (which looks GREAT, by the way!)
Like your collection of photos. I check in often. I grew up with old things and cannot seem to stay away from them. Under most circumstances there is already something that exists that will do just fine, so why buy new? It may not be art, but who needs a new hammer?
Live in Paris now, but NC (Chapel Hill) is my adopted home, (when I am not in Upstate NY at my family’s place on the St. Lawrence).
Happy New Year.
Edward
Hi Edward, Thanks for stopping by! Oh wow, living between Paris and Upstate NY? I am envious! I’m so glad you’re enjoying Salvaged Grace. Thanks again!
Hey Erin! It’s Pam Carpenter, an old dance buddy from A Dancers Place!! I love your blog. When I have time, which is never with two little ones, I love to go to the Metrolina Expo in Charlotte and check out all the stuff they have! Some great, some scary, but all really neat! Keep up the good work, I’ve already saved some of your pictures for stuff I would like to do eventually! I’m going to send your link to Cathy, she will love this!!
Hi Pam! So nice to hear from you! My mom goes to Metrolino Expo as well on occasion. I need to make sure I get over there on my next trip home. Thanks so much for the encouragement and feedback! Glad you are finding some inspiration!
Erin,
I am painting some brass and wondered if you painted the light fixture and how you did that or if you bought them that way. It is so beautiful!!
Thank You,
Hi Cheryl! Thanks for your note. I’m not sure which lamps you are referencing. I actually have not painted brass before but I hope your project comes out great! Good luck!
Hi Erin!
thanks for showing my Card Catalog table here. It’s a very nice feeling to see someone else appreciate something you created in a moment of creative insanity!!! I will definitely place you on my blog as one of my favorites.
xoxo
Hi Erin! It’s Karen from Spellbinderie, I make the journals from vintage book covers. I came across your blog when I saw traffic coming to my etsy shop thanks to you! Funny enough, I used to live in Park Slope Brooklyn, on 7th ave and Carroll Street, until I moved to France last year. Love your blog, it’s a subject that is close to my heart! Reuse, reclaim and redecorate!
Thanks Karen! So glad to feature your journals and that SG drove some traffic your way! Your products are so lovely! Happy holidays!
